CHRO Corner: Driving Positive Change

Chief People and Culture Officer Paul Gregory details some of the current challenges and successes at Securonix.

By Debbie Bolla

HRO Today: What’s the biggest challenge you are currently facing and what are your plans to overcome it?

Gregory: Our biggest challenge is the return-to-office initiative that we introduced recently. After four years of primarily working from home—or at least having the choice to work from wherever they want— employees are challenged by the desire to have them return to the office. We are positioning this in as positive a way as possible, ensuring that it is seen as a valuable change while ensuring that we continue to allow that flexibility that people have come to expect and cherish. Some of the initial steps we have taken to make this transition as smooth as possible include social committees, events and sports teams, as well as sprucing up the office. Let’s see how we fair!

HROT: What steps did you take to transform the culture at Securonix and what results have you seen?

Gregory: The way I look at this is more around defining our global employee value proposition (EVP) around our three core values. Driving these changes to how we define our EVP will lead to our culture being transformed appropriately in each country. The transformation is centered around initiatives to increase openness, transparency, and trust at every level in the organization. We have implemented new ways of ensuring communication reflects these three traits.

HROT: How did you approach the creation of the company’s very first senior leadership team and what impact is it having?

Gregory: When I joined the company in July last year, only Nayaki Nayyar, CEO, and our chief customer officer were on board. Today, we have a full C-suite in place and are operating like a well-oiled machine. As I drove the hiring of my fellow executives in partnership with our CEO, the most important aspect of determining who was the right fit was if the candidate mirrored our three core values in their thinking and outlook. I also asked myself if I saw them sitting around the table with us all. I believe we got it spot on and it is being reflected in our performance as a company and the positive feedback we are receiving from the broader organization on their view of the effectiveness of the senior leadership.

HROT: What is your favorite way to spend free time?

Gregory: Most of my free time is spent watching or playing sports with my 12-year-old son. This includes travelling around the country to sporting venues. We have picked out our top five to visit in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and college football!
