Recognition & Rewards

Rewards for Retention

By Maggie Mancini

Organizations often leverage employee recognition to help them increase employee engagement, company culture, and talent retention. Brent Lee, national account manager for C.A. Short Company, says that recognition and engagement go hand in hand. If an organization’s goal is to increase engagement and retention, a recognition program is a great way to tie back to a company’s core values and motivate its team members to perform, he explains.

One such company that was looking to do this was Armorous Security and Investigations. The organization was struggling to keep their security officers past the company’s 90-day employment milestone, Lee says. Organizational leaders realized that while most new hires quit within their first 90 days, employees who made it through the first three months could then be retained for much longer. With this in mind, the organization sought out ways to increase employee tenure and build a culture of appreciation in an industry that doesn’t often reward or incentivize its employees.

“Armorous knew recognizing their employees early and often was the key to their success,” Lee says. “They wanted to create a recognition program that rewarded and recognized employees for reaching every major milestone with Armorous, which starts in the first 30 days.”

Employees are recognized for service milestones beginning when they arrive at orientation and can earn points that are redeemed for rewards through an online portal. They’re additionally recognized at monthly intervals for the first 90 days of their tenure, and then at the six-month, nine-month, one-year, three-year, and five-year marks, Lee says.

The goal of this recognition program is to retain their security officers while also rewarding them for their contributions to the company. As a result, Armorous Security has not only seen a rise in its employee tenure by 163%, but also increased employee engagement and customer satisfaction.
