CEO’s Letter: HRO Today Premium Subscription Initiative

HRO Today is a leading provider of HR content, research, and insights such as our feature articles, newsletters, podcasts, and hugely popular Baker’s Dozen Customer Satisfaction Ratings™. However, like all journalistic organizations, we have come under pressure, and we need your help.

Over the years some provider organizations have pressured HRO Today to present content that featured them in sales-oriented articles. We have resisted that pressure. We carefully label editorial versus “advertorial” for the benefit of our readers. They can buy as many advertorials as they would like, and we are happy to sell that product. We have not, will not, and never will sell editorial content. We must be neutral and tell our audience what is accurate.

As with other organizations, economic pressures have also hit our loyal sponsors and advertisers, and they are a great group of companies. However, we have decided to upgrade some of our content, do a bit more research, and to continue to host one of the largest archives in the HR media, allowing more than 30,000 people a month to browse the pages of HRO Today. But these decisions are expensive choices. In the fourth quarter of the year, we will begin to offer you, the engaged readers of HRO Today, access to gated content with a discounted subscription program for our early supporters. Your support will allow us to continue what we do to inform, educate, and improve the practice of human resources (that is our mission statement—short and to the point).

Subscriptions for a year will be less than $100 for early subscribers. Our content will continue to feature top thought leaders, “provocateurs,” and academic experts such as our column by Professor Peter Cappelli of the Wharton School. We expect to make more content available in multiple formats, such as our plans to offer our audio podcasts in upcoming video formats. In addition, we will be offering subscriptions to our training content already approved for continuing education credits for PHR, SPHR, and GPHR accreditations. This will be offered via a subscription to our HRO Today Virtual Academy.

Ultimately, the success of our subscription offers will be based on giving you, the readers, what you want. If you are pre-disposed to be aware of the latest trends in HR services and technology, and you are interested in knowing who the best partners are in the verticals in which we do Baker’s Dozen research, and if you are interested in furthering your professional development, then you are our target audience. Our very high engagement statistics for our readers suggests we are doing that and doing that successfully.

If you are enjoying the content, then please join us on the journey to new and better content to meet your professional needs. Please support our efforts to improve and disseminate best practices in HR and become an HRO Today subscriber!
